Meghalaya outfit declared unlawful

The government on Thursday issued a notification declaring the Meghalaya-based Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) — along with all its factions, wings and front organisations — as an ‘unlawful association’ under provisions of the anti-terror law UAPA for five years from November 16, 2024.
In the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the move was taken considering the unlawful activities committed in the past by the HNLC, which has been found to be involved in activities that “are prejudicial” to the sovereignty and integrity of India.
