Govt orders Samsung, executives to pay $601 million for tax evasion

THE government has ordered Samsung and its executives to pay $601 million in back taxes and penalties for allegedly evading tariffs on imported telecommunications equipment.
This marks one of the most significant tax demands in recent years. The dispute revolves around the import of critical transmission components, known as "Remote Radio Heads," used in mobile towers, which Samsung supplied to Reliance Jio.
According to Indian customs authorities, Samsung misclassified these imports to avoid paying tariffs of 10% or 20%.
