Emission cut put on fast track to meet climate goal

THE interim Budget for the conservation of the environment is short of funds and absence of new initiatives. Funds for the improvement of air quality as well as the conservation of large animals like tigers and elephants have been reduced. Meanwhile, the Budget's major thrust is on the commitment to achieve climate goals to reduce emissions by promoting solar power on a large scale.

The Budget estimate for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is allocated ₹3,265.53 crore which is a marginal increment (1.05%) to the revised estimate. However, it is around 5% increase from last year's Budget estimate.

There is a slight increase in allocations for statutory bodies such as the Central pollution control boards and the Central Zoo Authority.
