Ahead of World Sari Day, Jaya Saha of sari label Huts and Looms, recalls her emotional and cultural connection to saris & talks of how to make them as comfortable as jeans!

WORLD Sari Day, celebrated every year on December 21, honors the beauty and craftsmanship of the six yards. It pays an ode to weavers who design heritage masterpieces—from Banarasi saris, West Bengal's handlooms, to Kanchipuram silks and more.

For Jaya Saha, co-founder of label Huts and Looms, that retails across the country including Delhi, saris are like milestones. "I still remember the first sari I ever wore for a Saraswati Puja in Jirat in 2000. It was one of my mother's simplest white cotton saris with a yellow border. She draped it with care, and I could feel her warmth in every fold. I was nervous, but she said, 'The sari doesn't just dress you; it teaches you to carry yourself.' That day, I didn't just wear a garment—I wore her pride and blessings," she recounts.
