NSFAS challenges impacting students

THOUSANDS of university students are facing delays in receiving their financial aid from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

The Department of Higher Education and Training and NSFAS outlined the root causes of the delays, which have left many students uncertain about their academic future.

“Some students from universities who applied during the TVET application cycle have experienced difficulties with their registration status due to errors encountered during the application process,” the department and NSFAS said.

Funding has also been held up for students whose registration confirmations were submitted late. “Certain students, whose registration statuses were only confirmed after the official registration deadline, are currently facing delays in accessing funding support.

“Students whose appeals have been approved are experiencing funding shortfalls due to limited remaining budgets, impacting their ability to cover registration and related costs,” the institutions said.

The institutions said they were working urgently to resolve the issues.
