NPA LESSONS UNLEARNT IN STATE CAPTURE

UNTIL now, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), with the backing of the Department of Justice has declared itself ready to tackle crimes emanating from the state capture commission of inquiry.

The department's backing includes not only boosting the NPA with human resources including skilled prosecutors but also injecting huge financial muscle for that entity to be able to take on some of the most complex crimes that are said to have taken place in a democratic South Africa.

Such investment has not resulted in positive results on the ground. In fact, the opposite has occurred. Time and again, our courts have exposed the NPA as being in shambles and at times rushing to make decisions, only for the courts to throw cases out the window.
