The KwaMnyandu Precinct Plan could transform the area into a vibrant, connected, and economically active township hub that strengthens Umlazi's integration with the wider Durban region.

- ZAINUL DAWOOD

This is according to a report of the eThekwini Municipality.

The KwaMnyandu Precinct is located within the municipal Ward 87 in Umlazi, south of Durban. It is strategically situated along Griffiths Mxenge Highway (M30), covering the KwaMnyandu Railway Station and Shopping Mall precinct and its immediate surroundings, extending from the Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) and King Zwelithini Stadium in the north to the T-Section residential area in the south.

The current precinct serves as a transportation interchange zone linking rail and taxi. and bus networks, making it the logical anchor for an integrated urban hub serving Umlazi's 400 000 residents.

According to the municipality, KwaMnyandu currently accommodates a diverse mix of residential, institutional, and commercial uses but faces spatial fragmentation due to the railway line and low residential densities, which limit investment and pedestrian movement.
