THE National Convention that took place at Unisa’s Muckleneuk Campus from August 15-16 was a powerful gathering set in the heart of Women’s Month which celebrates the mothers, grandmothers, sisters and daughters of this land we call South Africa.

- NOKUTHULA MAZIBUKO

We celebrate the roles, strength, determination, resilience, and the guidance of these women across generations.

In isiZulu we call it “inimba” - a deep sense, or the compassionate emotions of a “mother’s love’.

What has happened to inimba, when we groom our children to address the elderly with disrespect in private and on public platforms.

What has happened to mothers that do not rely on intuition and sense that they could be putting their children in great danger with our forefathers when respect is no longer an order of the day.

Yet, we expect our children to turn around and show respect to us as mothers.
