CACHALIA SHOULD PROTECT SAPS
The Mercury
|September 03, 2025
FOR an acting police minister with so much enthusiasm to make his disapproval known, it’s interesting that Firoz Cachalia has chosen not to air his views on the ongoing standoff between national police commissioner Fannie Masemola and his deputy Shadrack Sibiya.
-
Even though the matter is now before the courts, nothing stops Cachalia from encouraging the two senior officers to settle their dispute internally.
A police service with two of the country’s most senior officers engaged in litigation is not only detrimental to the organisation, but to the public as a whole.
Cachalia cannot afford to have ‘no comment’ when the public spat between these generals has the potential to fracture the image of an already struggling police service.
