THE Road Traffic Infringement Authority (RTIA) has noted with concern the contents of a letter by Roland Fisher, “AARTO rollout is a pipe dream amid rampant road safety issues” (The Mercury, August 14).

His views are completely misplaced. The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) is not a pipedream but a realistic national road safety intervention with very quick consequences.
There is an average of 38-40 road users who perish on our roads daily. Some families lose breadwinners due to habitual or repeat traffic law offenders.
AARTO is designed to quickly put an end to this, including the concerns he raises in his letter.
The management of our road infringements requires standardisation across the country. With AARTO, the challenge of fragmented traffic law enforcement will be a thing of the past. There shall be a common national contravention register.
