WHAT a pleasure it was to watch last weekend's Currie Cup final. Some wonderful play by both Griquas and Lions, a seesawing of points.
A dramatic converted try for the Lions, coming out of nowhere and putting them two points ahead in injury time. Unassailable!
Then a penalty the other way, only just in penalty time, giving Griquas their first Currie Cup victory in 55 years. A professional dramatist couldn't have scripted it.
Is this a message for our rugby administrators? The Currie Cup is the oldest rugby trophy in the world. It was presented to South African rugby back in 1892 by Sir Donald Currie, owner of the Union Castle shipping line.
