Mission accomplished for Kane in Germany after title triumph?
The London Standard
|May 08, 2025
England's greatest goalscorer is no longer one of the best players never to win a trophy.
After 15 years and 694 professional matches, Harry Kane's long wait for a team trophy finally came to an end this week when Bayern Munich were confirmed as Bundesliga champions.
Kane, as always seemed certain once he swapped Tottenham for the Bavarian giants, will not go down as one of the greatest players in history never to win a major honour with club or country.
Kane will never silence all the critics and nor should he want to, given the role they have played in pushing him to new heights, and finally shaking the monkey off his back should do nothing to alter perceptions of the England captain and his career to date.
The 31-year-old is not suddenly a more complete or more accomplished player than he was on Sunday morning, before Bayer Leverkusen’s failure to beat Freiburg handed Bayern the title, but a more relevent question is whether he will be any different going forward.

Only you know whether pizza is worth queuing five hours for, whether it is worth sleepless nights sitting in the torpid blue light of a smartphone screen searching in vain for a reservation that will never materialise. This is how it is with the Marlborough.
