Sir Alex Ferguson famously said: “Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles.” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has clearly taken that on board in his quest to end the club’s 21-year wait to win the Premier League.
Arteta has built a formidable defence, one that is already breaking records this season. Arsenal have conceded just three goals in their first 12 matches, the fewest at this stage in the club's 138-year history.
Tuesday's clean sheet in the 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid was their ninth of the season, and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is the only player to score from open play against them.
If Arsenal continue at their current rate, they will break Chelsea's 2004-05 record of 15 goals conceded in a Premier League campaign.
