Winning photograph captures darkness and light

The divide between past and present, life and death, was captured at night in Peterlee in County Durham by artist and photographer Andy Martin and earned him the title of overall winner in this year’s Northumberland Open Exhibition which opened on Saturday at Woodhorn Museum, Ashington, part of North East Museums.

There was a record number of entries this year with 687 submissions from 281 artists, compared to 206 from 96 artists in the exhibition's first year in 2018 and 299 from 149 entrants last year.
