Twelve arrested in protests against Action ban

TWELVE people were arrested yesterday in a protest outside Newcastle Civic Centre against the official banning of Palestine Action.

‘The protests are part of a UK-wide wave of action around the Judicial review of the Government's proscription of the protest group as a “terrorist organisation.”
More than 20 people, most of whom were pensioners, sat on the grass outside the Civic Centre in silence holding cardboard signs saying: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”
Several Northumbria Police officers were present, with arrests occurring after demonstrators declined to give their details. Some of those arrested walked to arrest vans accompanied by officers, though others were carried to the vehicles in handcuffs.
