Tributes to 'deeply loved' mum and charity founder after cancer death

Sarah Harrison

Family and friends have paid tribute to the legacy that Sarah Harrison, 44, will leave and they hope to continue her work with the charity Sarah's Star.

Sarah was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. She was just 35.

While the illness was successfully treated, in 2019 she was given the devastating news that not only had it returned, but that it was now incurable, too.

However, the determined North Shields mum used her diagnosis as inspiration to set set up the charity Sarah's Star - which has been devoted to supporting those with terminal illness.

Whether it be through organising popular “death cafes” to help people talk about life and death “and everything in between” or by offering activities such as armchair Pilates for those living with illness, the charity has become much-loved.

Speaking after her death this week, Sarah’s sister Joanne Dunn told The Journal how proud she was of her, saying: “I'm so absolutely hugely proud of her and all she achieved. She was named ‘woman of the year’ and I could just go through everything on the nomination. She was amazing.”
