Speakman lands new job with Copenhagen

FORMER Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman has been announced as the new director of football of FC Copenhagen.

It is his first role since leaving Sunderland earlier this year.

Taking charge of one of Denmark’s most historic clubs, Speakman, 47, is tasked with reviving their fortunes after a poor season in which they played in the third division for the first time.

A win in the division’s European play-off, however, means they will enter the Conference League at the qualification stage in 2026-27.

FC Copenhagen said Speakman emerged as the preferred candidate after impressing in a rigorous and extensive recruitment programme.

Speakman told reporters: ‘‘I am proud to take up the position of director of football at such a fantastic club as FC Copenhagen.
