VETERANS and members of the community gathered in Newcastle city centre for a special VE Day service yesterday.

May 8 marked 80 years since Victory in Europe Day, and events and services have been going on all over the country.
Lifelong friends Matt Hall and Mike Brooke, who each served 20 years in the military, were keen to arrange an event to give fellow veterans a chance to come together to commemorate the date.
