School non-uniform day axed on safety grounds

POLICE were called and a County Durham school nonuniform day was called off following concerns that two boys known to police were planning to attend.

Park View School in Chester-le-Street had planned to let pupils dress in their normal clothes yesterday for Children in Need.

However, they scrapped the decision after two boys - known to the police but not connected to the school - asked some of their students whether they were having a nonuniform day. A letter was then sent out to parents and carers asking all pupils in Year 7-11 to attend in full uniform.
