Rail company to improve accessibilty at six stations

NORTHERN Trains is set to ‘improve accessibility’ at Hexham Station thanks to the hard work of a disability rights campaigner.

Doug Paulley brought a legal challenge to the transport company over the lack of step-free access for wheelchair users.

Hexham is one of six stations which Northern has committed to improving as it, along with Appleby, Bridlington, Settle, Thorne North, and Ulverston, has a staff-operated barrow crossing. This means that disabled passengers who can’t access the stairs need staff to help them.
