Quake award for Northumberland mountain rescuer

A NORTHUMBERLAND paramedic and mountain rescue volunteer has been awarded the King's Humanitarian Medal in recognition of his role in supporting the international response to a devastating earthquake in Morocco.

In September 2023, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, causing the destruction of remote mountain villages and thousands of deaths.

Jamie Pattison was one of 62 UK International Search and Rescue (UKISAR) specialists sent by the government to assist with the recovery operation. The 34-year-old, from Morpeth, works as a winch paramedic with the Coastguard for his day job, and is the team leader of Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team.
