Plans to install CCTV to halt vandalism of North Pier

THE Port of Tyne Authority has sought extra security measures to prevent future vandalism to the North Pier in Tynemouth.

Plans have been submitted by North Tyneside Council seeking permission for CCTV cameras on land close to Tynemouth Sailing Club in order to stem a spate of vandalism and arson.
According to documents written on behalf of the authority, some previous damage resulted in navigation disruption “for a number of months”.
