No confidence crisis here, insists Enrique
The Journal
|January 28, 2026
PSG manager Luis Enrique batted away any questions over whether his team were suffering a crisis of confidence ahead of tonight's visit of Newcastle United.
The reigning European champions were beaten 2-1 by Sporting CP last week in the Champions League, meaning they missed their chance to book their place in the last 16.
But it has set up a tense meeting with Newcastle at the Parc des Princes with both teams among eight teams currently locked on 13 points.
PSG start the game in sixth place, with the Magpies in seventh - and both teams know a win will result in a place in the last 16 and anything else will likely see them drop out of the top eight spots and into the playoff round.
Les Parisiens bounced back with an unconvincing 1-0 win over Auxerre which lifted them to the top of the Ligue 1 table over the weekend, but it prompted questions about Enrique's side's confidence.
