Nissan 'set to cut 20,000 global jobs' as sales fall

The car maker last year announced plans to cut 9,000 jobs from its global operations and reduce production by 20% in response to a slump in sales that had led to a major drop in profits.

Now Japanese broadcaster NHK has reported that the firm is planning to extend the cuts to around 20,000 roles after weak sales continued. Nissan has not commented on the reports but is set to release its 2024 financial results today.

Cuts of that size would amount to around 15% of the company's workforce, but it is not known where jobs will be cut across its global operations.
