A NORTHUMBERLAND teenager who suffered life-threatening injuries when falling from her horse got back in the saddle just two months after losing a kidney and fracturing her back.
Lucy Henderson, 18, from Hexham, was riding Peapod in Otterburn on June 20 when they had a rotational fall during a jump, and Peapod landed on top of her.
Lucy was in a lot of pain, having suffered internal bleeding, fractured her back, scapula, nose and six ribs, and had a chunk taken out of her lip.
Medics were called to her aid, including the Great North Air Ambulance helicopter.
Lucy said: “I was knocked out initially, but afterwards I can remember the majority of it.
“I remember hearing the helicopter and I thought, thank God for that, the drugs are on the way.”
Parents Tracy Irving Henderson and Matt Henderson watched the emergency services working to assess and treat their daughter's injuries.

HEALTHY START
January is the right time for a reset. Nothing extreme, just food to help you feel good. Think fresh flavours, colourful plates and meals as nourishing as they are comforting. Soothing soups, vibrant salads and a spicy curry are on my menu plus, of course, the odd selection box chocolate which needs eating up!
