Lottery cash bid backed

GATESHEAD Council chiefs have approved a bid for £4.5m of lottery funding to help boost the Tyne Derwent Way trail.

The local authority's cabinet unanimously approved plans to apply for a multi-million pound grant to improve the nine-mile nature and community trail. The cash would be spread over four years and a portion could be used to help repair the Dunston Staiths.
