Football club given £2m for new community hub

YOUNG girls in South Tyneside who have been inspired to play football by the Lionesses stunning Euros victory are set to benefit from a major funding boost.

Hebburn Town Football Club is set for a £2 million investment to upgrade pitch quality, build a new education space and community building and extend the car park.

The funding boost is part of the £20 million Community Regeneration Partnership which will benefit South Tyneside and was announced on Monday. The announcement of the investment to the football club coincided perfectly with Sunday's victory in a penalty shootout win over Spain in the final in Basel, Switzerland.

Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal following two huge saves from goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, sending supporters across the country in a frenzy. The win will surely get more girls in the North East into playing football, and Hebburn Town is ready to nurture their talent.
