Coffee shop and car EV charging hub for airport

The airport is working with vehicle charging company Fastned to create an ultra-rapid EV charging station with 12 bays on land at Callerton Parkway.

The hub, which will have more bays than any other EV charging site in Newcastle, supports the airport's goal to achieve Net Zero Carbon status by the year 2035.

Construction work on the scheme is expected to begin later this year.

The chargers will be powered entirely by renewable energy and are capable of adding up to 300 miles of range to fully electric cars in around 20 minutes.

Dean Ward, director of commercial at Newcastle Airport, said: "Achieving Net Zero Carbon status by 2035 is a key priority for the airport so we are delighted that work to build the new ultra-rapid charging hub is under way.
