AN old pub that was saved from closure has gone on to be named one of UK's best.

Ye Olde Cross in Ryton Village
The 116-year-old Ye Olde Cross in Gateshead which was brought back to life by the local community now features in the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) new 2026 Good Beer Guide.
The latest guide to the best pubs in the industry includes a list of community-owned success stories and among them is Ye Olde Cross, a previous CAMRA Pub Saving Award winner in 2019. That was the year that the attractive-looking boozer in Old Ryton Village under a 30-minute drive from Newcastle was reopened by determined local residents who had never run one before.
