|August 07, 2025
CALLS for Metro ticket barriers to be introduced in North Tyneside have emerged following the installation of gates elsewhere on the network.
-
On Monday, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and Nexus announced the start of a £2.1m project to install new ticket barriers across the Tyne and Wear Metro.
Regent Centre was identified as the first station to be invested in, with more than 1.3m passengers passing through every day.
The project also aims to improve safety, particularly for women and girls.
