Albanian man facing deportation for fifth time

AN Albanian man faces being made to leave the country for the fifth time for breaching immigration rules after he was found hiding in a trailer destined for a North East factory.

Newcastle Crown Court heard that Romeo Zani, 28, was first interviewed by the immigration authorities in 2017 and he told them he entered the UK seven months earlier in the back of a lorry. He said he had been working illegally and wanted to remain in the country.

He signed a voluntary departure disclaimer and in September that year he was removed from the UK. He then entered the country illegally again and was arrested in January 2018. In December 2018 he was jailed for 20 months at Bristol Crown Court for offences including possessing identity documents’ with intent to use them, conspiracy to possess drugs and facilitating the acquisition of criminal property.
