291 ASYLUM SEEKERS HOUSED IN CITY HOTELS, FIGURES REVEAL

The number of asylum seekers housed temporarily in hotels across the North East has been revealed.

Newcastle is the only local authority out of the seven in our region that currently houses asylum seekers in hotels, according to the Home Office figures.
There are currently 291 asylum seekers being housed in hotels in Newcastle as of June 30 this year, which is a drop of eight compared to figures in March this year.
The data also shows 27 asylum seekers were previously housed in Gateshead but that has now dropped to zero.
