£23m car park part of plan to grow economy

A CAR park described as part of a town's "transport mix" is now officially open.

The leader of Gateshead Council, Martin Gannon, cut the ribbon on the £23 million multi-storey last week.

The new car park is just minutes from the Baltic art centre and the Glasshouse, on Quays Boulevard. It has more than 1,000 spaces, as well as the largest number of EV chargers in the area, with 50 bays available.

It was commissioned to future-proof the neighbourhood for parking demand, as well as to serve wider development in the area.

"This is a hugely impressive facility, and it's going to be so important to help grow the economy in this part of the borough," said Coun Gannon.
