Indian and British Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Keir Starmer have announced in France that the landmark UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will come into force on 15 July, marking a major milestone in economic relations between the two countries and paving the way for billions of pounds in additional trade and investment.
The agreement, signed after years of negotiations and months of intensive implementation work by both governments, is being described as the most comprehensive trade pact ever concluded by India.
Officials said the rapid implementation timeline represents the quickest turnaround achieved by the United Kingdom following the signing of a major trade agreement.
Under the pact, bilateral trade is projected to increase by £25.5 billion annually in the long term. The agreement is expected to boost the UK economy by £4.8 billion and India's economy by £5.1 billion, creating new opportunities for businesses, workers and consumers in both countries.
