Trump's overall approval rating slumps to 39%, lowest in 80 years

As United States President Donald Trump completed 100 days of his second term, his overall rating slumped to 39%, the lowest 100-day approval rating of any US president since polling began more than 80 years ago.

Thirty-nine percent of US adults approve of Trump’s job performance, and 55% disapprove, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll.

Most Americans said they disapprove of Trump's actions in several key areas: immigration, managing the federal government, looking out for the interests of average Americans, the economy, foreign relations, tariffs and the stock market.

Polling firm Gallup's recent polling finds that Trump is the only post-war president to have just a little over a third of the public’s support after 100 days, in both his terms.

Polling in the United States is an attempt to assess what the nation thinks based on samples. It is a key part of taking stock of a President's first 100 days. Gallup has used and compared the 100-day milestone for decades.

John F Kennedy enjoyed 83% of public approval and Ronald Reagan had 67% at this point. Joe Biden and Bill Clinton were less popular, but still above 50%.

Trump is now on 39%, and at this point in 2017 was at 41%.
