Q You travel all over the world, doing things most travellers wish they could, many times off the beaten track, travelling on local buses, hitching rides and so on.

Or so I have gathered from reading your columns. My question to you is: do you speak other languages? If not, how did you communicate across the world? I’m sure you have encountered many local people who don’t speak/understand English well over the last 30 years or so. Nowadays, I assume it’s Google Translate.
