Brazil wants return of 26 blue macaws

A parrot declared extinct in the wild in 2019 before a captive-breeding programme began reintroducing it to Brazil has become the centre of an international dispute. Brazil has objected to a private conservation project in Ahmedabad, India, called Vantara from holding 26 Spix's macaws The facility is operated by the philanthropic arm of a conglomerate controlled by Asia's wealthiest family, the Ambanis. Indian investigators recently cleared the sanctuary of any wrongdoing and the zoo was inaugurated in March by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.

Brazil is pursuing a potential resolution through a United Nations-administered body responsible for overseeing wildlife trade called Cites. The macaws were bought in 2023 from a German charity that has partnered with Brazilian authorities to breed the birds.

City's unpredictability tilts Champions League hopes

It is the sort of result that can mark a team out as potential champions of Europe. Beating Real Madrid in the Bernabeu, at the least, could offer an indication a team is equipped to defeat them in a final, semifinal or quarterfinal. Though, more than most, Pep Guardiola can testify to Real’s winning habit when the stakes are highest.

How can I kill time between my flights in Guangzhou?

Q I have eight hours at Guangzhou airport in China between flights on a journey from Melbourne to London. I looked for some kind of lounge or hotel in the terminal where I could rest, but the price appeared to be around £100, which is a quarter of what I paid for the entire flight. Any suggestions?
