Date set for decision on traffic offence crackdown

Council could soon take on police powers in a crackdown against traffic offences.In summer, the council proposed that it undertake a trial of "Moving Traffic Enforcement". This would allow the local authority to assist the police in tackling offences like: entering a yellow box junction when the exit isn't clear; driving through a 'No Entry' sign; or turning left or right when instructed not to do so.

But before it can do so, permission had to be secured from the Department for Transport and a period of consultation carried out. The consultation considered six potential sites, with support shown for the proposals, according to the council's website. These are as follows:
