The cottage that inspired Lenkiewicz

The Herald

March 07, 2026

IF you follow the winding edge of Yealm Creek near Kitley, you may stumble across a remote thatched cottage sitting quietly on the riverbank.

- WITH PAUL KEEN

It feels a world away from the bustle of Plymouth - timeless, peaceful, and slightly mysterious.

It was here, at Mudbank Cottage, that Robert Lenkiewicz stayed in 1995 while recovering from heart bypass surgery.

The stillness of the creek and the solitude of the landscape left their mark. From this period came works from his 'Landscape Project' (Project 19), including Silver Lake a reflective, atmospheric piece inspired by those very surroundings.
