Sewage alerts warn swimmers at city beaches

WEEKEND DOWNPOURS LEAD TO ISSUES ACROSS DEVON
PLYMOUTH Sound is potentially too dangerous to swim in, as three sites triggered a “sewage pollution alert” after the weekend’s downpours.
Plymouth Hoe West and East, as well as Firestone Bay, have all received pollution alerts for raw sewage. It is a similar picture for the rest of Devon with around 83% of the county’s beaches triggering the same alert.
Including Plymouth, 28 Devon beaches received a “sewage pollution alert” and 11 others were handed a “pollution risk forecast or incident alert”. This is according to Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), which monitor water quality across 47 beaches across Devon.
