A NUMBER OF NAIL-BITING PROMOTION AND RELEGATION DECIDERS FALL VICTIM TO WASHOUT

- By CONRAD SUTCLIFFE

WHAT a washout! The final round of matches in the Tolchards Devon Cricket League across all 17 divisions was virtually written-off by bad weather.

Of 80 matches on the fixture list from the Premier to the H Divisions, only a handful actually got under way. And of the few that started, just two were played out to a finish.

Premier sides Plymouth and Cornwood had games against Paignton and Heathcoat either cancelled or abandoned.

Plymouth travelled to Paignton, where the rain started falling just as kit bags were being unloaded from cars.

Cornwood did start at Heathcoat, but only four balls were bowled at the visitors before umpires Paul Smith and Kevin Jacobs decided it was too wet to continue.

A grand time tasting 'cider done right'

ADGE Cutler sang: “I am a cider drinker.” Well, I’m not. Actually, I don’t even drink nowadays, and I was still working out on the journey how to tell the folk at Sandford Orchards, who had invited me to a Tour and Tasting Evening.
