Pupils celebrate being 'SATS superstars'

PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN OUTPERFORM NATIONAL STANDARDS

CHILDREN at several Plymouth primary schools have outperformed national standards in their latest assessments, with staff and families celebrating the achievement.

Reach South Academy Trust, which runs Goosewell Primary Academy, Stuart Road Primary Academy and Pilgrim Primary Academy, reported that 83% of Year 1 pupils passed their phonics screening check, compared to the national average of 80%. The test involves reading 40 words, both real and made-up, to assess decoding skills.

Across the trust, 62% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics in their Year 6 Standard Assessment Tests (SATs), although the results are awaiting final confirmation. The SATs assess grammar, punctuation, spelling, reading and maths.
