CROSSING LIVES PROJECT AWARDED £20K FUNDING
A HISTORY and photography project that explores the lives of the Tamar Bridge's toll booth workers has been awarded almost £20,000 by Historic England.
Crossing Lives, led by Fotonow CIC, will collaborate with the Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre to shine a spotlight on the unsung members of staff who have maintained the crossing and collected payments for generations and have been at the heart of the bridge since its construction in 1961.
Receiving a grant worth £19,200 through Historic England's 2025 Everyday Heritage programme, the project will produce a series of powerful images while the community helps capture oral histories, working with current and former toll booth workers to share their personal experiences.
