LEEDS MIDFIELDER IN THE SQUAD FOR HUDDERSFIELD TRIP

- CHRIS ERRINGTON

DARKO TIMES!

MIDFIELDER Darko Gyabi trained with Plymouth Argyle for the first time yesterday and will be part of the squad for their Championship clash away to Huddersfield Town tomorrow.

The 19-year-old has joined Ian Foster's Pilgrims on loan from Leeds United until the end of the season and is their second signing of the January transfer window. Englandunder-19 captain Ashley Phillips was the first one when the 6ft 5in defender completed a loan move from Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.

He and Gyabi will travel with the Argyle squad to West Yorkshire as they seek that elusive first away Championship win of the campaign against 21st-placed Huddersfield Town.

Gyabi was part of Foster's England squad at the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Argentina and needed no persuasion to work with him again, this time at Argyle.

The midfielder joined Leeds from Manchester City for £5 million on a four-year contract in the summer of 2022 and has gone on to make three starts and two substitute appearances at first-team level.

Foster said: "He's a number eight, if you like. He's someone who can link the play. He has got the technical capabilities of being that link player from the first to the second phase, and then from the second phase into the final phase.

"He can pass past you and he can dribble past you, and he has got the energy and athleticism to arrive in the ball as well. A box-to-box midfielder would be fair assessment of him.

"I enjoyed my short time working with him. We went to the World Cup in Argentina together and he played up an age group, which isn't easy.

"He's a really nice kid, a really good personality. The lads will take to him I'm sure. I'm really pleased we have got him, he's someone that has high potential.
