BUT ONLY AS HE’S THE SOLE CARER FOR FOUR-YEAR-OLD
AN unqualified driver who left his ex-partner injured in a car after he drove into a tree has escaped jail after a judge accepted his incarceration would undeservingly punish his young son.
Zack Blampy, aged 25 and from Stangray Avenue, appeared at Plymouth Crown Court on Friday to be sentenced for causing serious injury to a named woman by driving dangerously on Paradise Road and Kings Road on May 25 last year.
Prosecutor Francesca Whebell told the court how Blampy - who did not hold a driving licence - was driving a Renault Laguna car from Efford to a music festival in Devonport.
In the car was his then-partner who later told police they had been arguing in the vehicle. They came to a stop at traffic lights on Paradise Road and continued to argue.
The driver behind Blampy told police that the Laguna unexpectedly reversed at speed, slamming into the front of his car before driving out onto the other side of the road, driving through a red light and turning left down Kings Road.
