SHE TURNS 90. MARION McMULLEN CELEBRATES A MEMORABLE CAREER

Amanda first appeared in Coronation Street in 1960 as Alma Sedgewick, becoming a series regular in the 1980s.

She received juicy storylines, such as the love triangle involving Alma, Mike Baldwin and Ken Barlow.

She and Johnny Briggs, who played Mike Baldwin, also recorded a cover version of the Frank and Nancy Sinatra hit Somethin’ Stupid, reaching number 35 in the UK music charts.

Amanda is appearing live on stage in a tour this month to celebrate the legacy of Corrie and share unforgettable memories from her own time on the cobbles of Weatherfield in An Audience with Coronation Street. She says: “Returning to celebrate Coronation Street is like stepping back into a cherished chapter of my life. Alma was a character I loved deeply, and I still hear from fans who remember her with such fondness.”

There have been reality show appearances as well over the years including Celebrity Big Brother and Hell’s Kitchen.

Amanda is bringing out a new biography this month. I’m Still Here: My 90 Years is published by Mirror Books and Amanda says she is “finally ready to tell everything.”

It covers her expulsion from two schools, running away from home and how she met and fell in love with her now wife, acclaimed crime writer Hilary Bonner.
