Argyle’s pursuit to remain in the FA WNL Southern Premier Division remains in the balance after a 5-0 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

Argyle stung by Hornets to dash survival hopes

The visitors were put under a lot of pressure from the start of the match, which led to them conceding four goals in 23 minutes. Jessie Gale, Florence Fyfe, Bianca Baptiste and Lucy Lyon all scored in quick succession in the first half, with Madison Perry adding the fifth late into the second half.

Argyle only have three leagues games to ensure their safety, with two of these matches on the road. They are in desperate need of some points as they have lost their advantage of having a smaller goal difference to Billericay Town, after the result at the weekend.

Gale got the Hornets off to a strong start when she beat Lily Felgate one-on-one in the seventh minute. Coral Haines sent her through from a superb pass which found its way beyond Giota Papaioannou.
