Argyle stun Everton to progress in Youth Cup
The Herald
|February 06, 2025
PLYMOUTH Argyle youth team coach Jamie Lowry was 'super proud' of his team as the young Pilgrims pulled off a huge shock in the FA Youth Cup with a 1-0 win at Category One side Everton and set up a quarter-final clash with Aston Villa.
Cole Fisher scored the only goal of the game with a second minute penalty and from then on, the Pilgrims showed determination, resilience and plenty of character to keep their hosts at bay and set up that date with Villa, which is likely to be at Villa Park.
"I'm pretty speechless to be fair," Lowry told Argyle TV. "The boys were incredible and left it all out on the pitch. They put the game plan down to a tee with blocked tackles, made saves, they passed the ball and defended like lions when they needed to. It's just an incredible performance and it's something they fully deserve. They work so hard day in, day out, the whole programme.
I'm so proud of them.
"I think the early goal maybe helped settle the nerves a little bit.
