Acid attack victim's plan for football betting scam

A MAN who died after being hit with acid attempted to get involved in a moneymaking gambling plot allegedly involving corrupted football players and referees to repay an angry drug dealer, a jury has heard.

The trial of 10 people - seven men from London and three women from Plymouth continued this week at Winchester Crown Court.

Seven of the 10 are accused of 38-year-old Danny Cahalane's murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.

Lead prosecutor Joanna Martin KC previously told the jury that Danny, who died on May 3, 2025, following an acid attack at his home in Lipson Road, Plymouth in the early hours of February 21, 2025, was a "drug dealer in Plymouth who owed a large amount of money to another drug dealer further up the chain of command".

Danny admitted to police he had also gambled with the profits, including money which was meant to have gone to a drugs boss, named in court as Ryan Kennedy, also known as 'Frost. The court has previously been told that Frost, from London, is believed to currently be in Dubai.

On Tuesday this week the jury in the trial - which began on Thursday, January 22nd - heard of Danny's new venture to earn cash.

They were told of Danny's message conversation with an unknown person on the afternoon of January 31 last year, attributed to a man known as 'Size'.
