Woman who thought vows were a stunt for Instagram has marriage annulled

A Melbourne couple's marriage has been annulled after the bride told a court she had thought their wedding was a social media stunt to boost his Instagram following.

In an October family court judgment published on Thursday, a judge annulled the marriage after finding the bride "believed she was taking part in a social media event", rather than in a legally binding ceremony.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had told the court that she met the groom on a dating app in September 2023. She was in her mid-20s and he was in his late 30s. For the next three months they remained in contact, before the man invited her to a "white party" in Sydney in December, the court heard.
